a brief note on branding
if you don't already have an image in mind, remember the audience is going to naturally choose associate keywords to share your stuff. think about what adjective/noun you'd like to be known for; are you a chill retro gamer? are you a cozy tavern keeper? try to stick with language and assets that match your self-percieved vibe. that's your brand.
regarding social media
should you stream twice a week for four hours or more..? should you post to instagram everyday..? or be active on twitter/blusky..?
are you trying to get your name out there to make a career out of this?
then yes, definitely.
or are you doing it for the love of the game, to joke and play games?
then probably not.
personally, i'm a relatively introverted person who just likes to hang out with folks in a low stress environment. posting to social media feels empty to me; does that hurt my 'growth' as a creator..? sure. but i'm not doing any of this for numbers, so that doesn't mean much to me.
What inspired you to start creating? Why do you continue to do it?
i did post to socials in the past. in my experience, it didn't result in any substantial reach as far as numbers are concerned. i do understand the concept of shotgun blasting shorts until one of them hits the mark, however. here are a few tips i tried to follow (that didn't work for me, but might for you).
- Share clips/shorts 3x/week
- Stream 2-3x/week for at least 3-4 hours
- General Engagement Posting 2x/week
- Don't overwhelm posts with hashtags. A few are okay, but my understanding is that most algorithms have moved back to keywords.
ultimately: don't stress yourself out. do what feels natural and post what you're excited to share about. not because you have to, but because you want to.
selective networking
this sounds like common sense, but whether you're thinking of collaborating with another creator or selecting a mod to help manage your space, be mindful of who that person is in other spaces and that you want to be associated with them.
additionally, think of how often you collab with others and if you want that to be a part of your brand. is your space meant to be more interactive with your audience, or are they just meant to enjoy the show? we'll dive deeper into the expectations of collab streaming later.
Youtube or Twitch?
There's been a bit of debate and expectation to 'mult-stream' to different platforms. i'll list what i think are some of the pros and cons of each platform (that i've personally used) and list them below. ultimately, it's up to you and your personal preference and goals. :)
